IP65 – what does this symbol mean?
The IP65 rating determines the level of protection of the enclosure against external factors in accordance with IEC 60529.
Interpretation of the marking:
- 6 – Complete dust protection (no dust entering the interior)
- 5 – resistance to water jets directed from different sides
What does this mean in practice?
The IP65 rated equipment works well in outdoor conditions – it is resistant to dust, rain and washing with water. However, it is not suitable for underwater or submersible operation.
IP65 = dust tightness + protection against pressurized water, but no submersion resistance.
